Unlocking the 44 Sounds of Spoken English

In this booklet, we focus exclusively on the 44 sounds that make up all the words in the English language. With over 20 years of experience, we have realized that learners who take the time to learn these 44 sounds or phonemes are more likely to end up speaking English almost like native speakers. This is a complement to the other 3 books in the Business English as a Second Language (BESL) trilogy.

The alphabet is the official set of symbols for writing words, and the IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) is the official set of symbols for the sounds of words. The English alphabet has 26 symbols and the International Phonetic Alphabet for English has 44 symbols representing the sounds of English.

Surprisingly, most learners try to speak English using only the written symbols, neglecting or ignoring the sound symbols altogether. In this book we take a closer look at the 44 basic sounds of spoken English. You can buy it on its own or use it as the backbone for the only three other books you need to start communicating in the language of Shakespeare as soon as humanly possible, namely BESL1_Learn English like a New Born to Speak it Like a Native; BESL2_Visiting Disney with Basic English; BESL3_The Winds of Change.
